Dr David Bardell

Prof David Bardell
BVSc CertVA DipECVAA MRCVS

 He can usually

David arrived in the veterinary profession via the scenic route having initially gone to agricultural college and worked with dairy cattle. Then after having had enough of getting cold, wet, kicked, covered in muck and getting up in the middle of the night to calve cows, he qualified as vet from Liverpool University and got a job in mixed practice getting cold, wet, kicked, covered in muck and getting up in the middle of the night to calve cows.

Always having been equine orientated, he moved from mixed practice to an equine referral practice and then returned to Liverpool University in 2006 to work as an anaesthetist. He gained the Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2007, the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2011 and then became head of the large animal anaesthesia service at Leahurst in 2012.
He was one of the recipients of the Sir Alistair Pilkington Award for excellence and innovation in teaching - awarded by the University of Liverpool to the Veterinary Anaesthesia team in 2009. David holds the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and is a European and RCVS Recognised Specialist. David became a Professor of Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2023 and also completed his PhD investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in tendon disease in 2021.

David lectures on anaesthesia in a most entertaining fashion! He can usually be found without footwear.... or we find just his shoes and know he has gone for a wander.

David has ridden motorbikes on and off since he was 16 and currently rides a Triumph Sprint GT 1050.

We would love to keep in touch with you!
